Within the realm of my artistic expression, I find inspiration in the tranquil and serene depths of memory, seeking to forge a connection to a peaceful realm through my impressionist yet realistic oil paintings. Drawing inspiration from the captivating coastal landscapes of Bodega Bay and Mendocino, as well as the rich natural history collections of plants, animals and botanical gardens, my artistic journey aims to capture the essence of these alluring California locations. 

 

In my work, I draw upon the scientific aspect of breaking color into fragmented strokes, inviting active participation from the viewer. Rather than presenting a pristine, photographic depiction, I embrace the human intervention that unfolds when deciphering my artwork. It is through this interplay between the viewer and the composition that a profound understanding emerges.

 

However, I am acutely aware that exclusively showcasing landscapes runs the risk of lacking challenge for the beholder. To mitigate this, I approach my art with caution, choosing honesty over mere picturesque beauty. I refrain from crafting a superficially pleasing facade, instead delving deeper to explore the intricate nuances and layers of meaning within the natural world.

 

For the natural world is not static, nor devoid of change and drama. It possesses an inherent dynamism that I strive to capture within my art.
